-
Micropower offers a broad range of professional battery chargers for vehicles, machinery, workshops and industrial applications. Charger specifications vary according to product series, battery technology, system voltage, charging capacity and installation requirements.
Rather than using one fixed charger platform for every application, Micropower provides charging solutions that can be matched to the battery system and its operating environment.
SWITCH-MODE & POWER CONVERSION TECHNOLOGY
Micropower uses advanced electronic power conversion technology to achieve efficient charging in compact charger designs. Selected charger families are specifically documented with switch-mode power conversion technology, while newer platforms use digitally controlled high-efficiency power conversion. In switch-mode chargers, electrical power is converted and electronically controlled rather than relying on the large, heavy transformer architecture traditionally associated with older battery chargers. This allows high charging performance to be combined with reduced size and weight.
Micropower charging systems use electronic control to regulate the charging process according to the battery and selected charging program. On applicable models, an internal microcontroller continuously monitors and adjusts the charging phases according to predefined battery-specific charging algorithms. The result is efficient power conversion, compact charger dimensions and precise control of the charging process.
BATTERY TECHNOLOGY
Depending on charger series and configuration, Micropower chargers are available for lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries. Charging programs are selected or configured according to the battery technology and application.
For example, the Champ range supports charging programs for lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries, while the RC platform is designed for both traditional lead-acid and lithium-ion battery systems.
SYSTEM VOLTAGE & CHARGING CAPACITY
Micropower chargers are available in a wide range of output voltages, charging currents and power levels.
Compact chargers are available for starter batteries and smaller electrical systems, while larger charger platforms are designed for higher-capacity traction batteries, industrial vehicles and machinery.
As an example of this range, Champ models include 12 V and 24 V chargers, while the RC family includes configurations for 12 V, 24 V, 36 V and 48 V applications. Individual specifications depend on charger model and configuration.
ON-BOARD & STATIONARY CHARGING
Micropower provides chargers for both permanently installed on-board charging and stationary charging applications.
On-board chargers are designed for integration into vehicles and machinery, allowing the battery to be charged directly from an available AC supply. Micropower's RC series, for example, is specifically designed as a compact, single-phase on-board charging platform for demanding industrial applications. Other Micropower charger platforms are intended for workshop, fleet and industrial charging installations where different charging capacities and system configurations are required.
AUTOMATIC CHARGING & CHARGING PROFILES
Micropower charging technology electronically controls the charging process according to the battery type and selected charging profile.
Depending on the charger, charging phases can be continuously monitored and adjusted during the charging process. Selected models also provide automatic maintenance charging, allowing the charger to remain connected after the main charging cycle has been completed. This allows the charging process to be adapted to different battery technologies, capacities and operating requirements rather than simply supplying a fixed voltage or current.
EFFICIENCY & COMPACT DESIGN
High efficiency and compact dimensions are central characteristics across several Micropower charger platforms.
Micropower describes the Champ range as combining compact dimensions with very high efficiency, while the newer RC platform uses digitally controlled power conversion and is specified at up to 97% efficiency, depending on configuration and operating conditions. Because efficiency varies between charger families and operating conditions, the technical data for the selected charger should always be used when specifying a system.
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Protection level and mechanical design vary according to charger family and intended application.
For demanding mobile installations, Micropower offers ruggedized chargers with fully protected electronics. Champ chargers are available with IP67 protection and moulded electronics, while the RC on-board charger family also uses a fanless IP67 design for demanding vehicle and machinery installations. Other charger families may use different enclosure and ingress-protection classifications according to their intended operating environment.
